10 Reasons a Summer Pregnancy is the Best!

We’ve compiled the top 10 reasons why a summer pregnancy is the best!!  I found out I was due early September and was so incredibly excited…and then realized I would be hitting the super pregnant stage during August…the hottest month of the year.  I.was.dreading.it.  After going through it, there are a ton of advantages to having a summer pregnancy.

Yes, contrary to what you might think, having a summer pregnancy is the best!

  • Maxi dresses – one of my all time favorite wardrobe choices! Maxi dresses are flattering on every body type, and most of the maxi dresses you wore before you were pregnant can be worn with that baby bump!  Plus, wearing a dress when it’s hot out will help to keep you cool.
  • You don’t have to stress about a ‘bikini body’ – THIS is one of my all-time favorites! There is seriously nothing better than flaunting that cute baby bump at the pool, and you can probably still use the same swimsuit you had before you were pregnant (or just invest in some new bottoms that allow for a little extra bump room…just find a color that compliments your existing top!).
  • You can exercise outside – It’s so easy to re-energize and go for a walk/run outside or even hit up the local pool whenever you want! Exercise is a mood elevator (if your hormones are going crazy it seems to help), it helps with stress and it’s aides with your little one’s development!
  • Fresh, organic fruits and veggies are in season – This is great because they’re cheap and you can find them everywhere! If your budget is tight, but you still want to eat organic, check out our post on the top 12 fruits and veggies you should buy organic.
  • I’ll take some extra vitamin D please! – Sunlight is obviously abundant during the summer months and it’s a great way to get your vitamin D! Vitamin D deficiency is very common during pregnancy and can lead to bacterial vaginosis, gestational diabetes and preeclampsia.  Make sure you use a safe sunscreen and don’t overheat!
  • Staying hydrated…in style! – Summer mocktails are a fun way to stay hydrated, get essential nutrients from fruits and they’re SO fun to drink!  Staying hydrated is essential during a summer pregnancy, but doing it in style makes it even better.
  • A healthier mama & baby – If you give birth during the summer months, your baby is less likely to contract diseases like RSV, the flu and others diseases that are typically prevalent during the fall and winter months.
  • Cute (and comfortable) flat sandals & flip flops – Thanks to the heat, wearing heals during the summer months can become uncomfortable due to swollen feet. Cute flat sandals and flip flops are the way to go!
  • Sunglasses – for a lot of mamas, the third trimester can bring on insomnia! Don’t worry, your body is just preparing itself to get through the first few months of nightly breastfeeding.  Wearing sunglasses can definitely help hide the dark circles!
  • ICE CREAM!! – this doesn’t need an explanation!!

Enjoy your summer pregnancy Mama!!
